Research shows that people are more likely to stick to an exercise program and achieve their workout goals if they have a workout buddy with them for motivation. Athletes and sports buffs only excel when they have the hunger to win, and working with a personal trainer works because they push you to work harder and go further.

The common denominator here is that people are more likely to succeed when they are challenged by others. So, if you want to feel like the champ for a day, need some extra motivation or are just looking to spice up a stale workout routine, check out Konkura.com.

Kokura.com is a free to join website dedicated to finding your inner competitor. At Konkura, you can compete with friends or strangers in a variety of fitness or sports challenges posted by the members themselves. Challenges range from something as simple as “How many pushups can you do in one minute?” to extreme challenges like “The Entrance Fitness Test for the Royal Marines.”

Just pick something that interests you: running, cycling, swimming, golfing, or just simply losing weight. There is bound to be a challenge that matches your interests and ability level. If there isn’t, just create one! The site allows you to create your own challenges, post videos of yourself doing your own or other peoples challenges, and chat or offer tips and encouragement to other members via the challenge walls or by messaging them directly.

Each challenge on Konkura.com has it’s own Leader Board that allows you to see the top score to beat. Fitness professionals, gyms and sport teams can also greatly benefit from using Konkura.com by creating challenges, and being able to keep an eye on who is training hard and who is not, through their scores and video updates. Konkura is very easy to use.

How it Works:

  1. Just sign up and fill out your profile. It’s always a tad bit cooler knowing if you’re dueling someone from the other side of the planet or your neighbour, so be sure to put in where you’re from.
  2. Browse through challenges or search by specific category.
  3. Click on a challenge that interests you to see the breakdown and video of what it entails.
  4. Check out the Leader Board to see the score you have to beat!
  5. Once you find a challenge that you’re up for, film yourself doing the challenge and just click on the “add/update score” button and input your score and video.

The scoring system on most challenges is pretty simple. Just input whatever type of score your particular challenge calls for (IE. your finishing time, number of reps, how much weight you lifted, etc.) But once you get into more complex workouts the scoring system can involve a formula to follow. For instance (E1+E2)/2 stands for Exercise #1  + Exercise #2 divided by 2, giving you the average score.

The only critique that I have for the site is that I wish there was a  “How it Works” page on the home page. Sure, you get all the instruction you need once you sign up, but its kind of a learn-as-you-go system. Someone who knows nothing about the site and just happens to fall on it may be inclined to walk away without some “upfront instruction.” I would hate to think that people are not signing up to such a fun site just because they don’t get it at first glance. All in all, I highly recommend Konkura. It’s an exciting new way to get people out of a rut and make sports and exercise fun and engaging for all fitness levels. So, if you have even one little competitive bone in your body, I dare you to try Konkura.com.

Who knows, there may even be a Human Trainer challenge up there soon! :p
